According to
Fiorelli -
dipinto:
CASELLIUM.AED.OVF
Essa
(translation: This shop had a masonry aedicula on the
pilaster that preceded it, and in it was a marble pelta with the relief showing
two tragic masks and two faces, formerly used to decorate the intercolumniation
of the portico of some rich house, and then placed here as a sign against the
evil-eye. Painted underneath the aedicula was
CASELLIUM.AED.OVF
It was probably a thermopolium, because of the podium
with two urns and the usual steps/shelving for the crockery, the hearth, two
niches for the Penates, and a room at the rear with another exit at VII.16.8 in
the eastern vicolo.”)

This had held a marble pelta or crescent-shaped shield decorated with the relief of two tragic masks, and two lamps.
The pelta was destroyed and lost forever in the 1943 bombing.
